Hong Kong, Hanoi, & Siem Reap
We had always dreamed of going to Southeast Asia and since we lived on the west coast of the US it would be realtivily easier to fly from Los Angeles to that region. We spent nearly 20 days exploring Hong Kong, Hanio, and Siem Reap. It’s not easy to describe how amazing the food and cultures were and so different in each location.
I know these 3 stops were barely the tip of what the region has to offer but we packed in as much as we could every day to get the best experience we could.
Exploring Hong Kong for some of the best local options for most of our meals lead us to some really cool places. We even bought custom made suits and shirts! Hong Kong is chaios with moments of peace.
Hanoi is scooter overload with some of the best food I’ve ever had in my life. The food scene is not to be missed, but I’m sure all of Vietnam could boast this fact. The freshness of everything we ate, even the western style breakfast offered in our hotel was incredible. We signed up for a street food tour, not something most people would dare to undertake but our guide assured us we would be fine and we were! Even the coffee with the raw egg in it was amazing!
An over night trip to Halong Bay was in our plans, it was one of the best night’s sleep I had in months on a slow rocking boat.
Siem Reap has all the magic you can imagine. It’s one of those ‘pinch me, I’m really here!’ moments when you’re standing looking at Angkor Wat, yes, it really does exsist! I even have a recommendation for a terrific guide to take you to all the best temples and sites. He’s also great with planning out where you’ll stop for a bite and chat with the locals. Siem Reap and it’s amazing history has you wide eyed and smiling, the people here were incredibly nice and proud.
On our trip home we had to get back to HK and being that we’re Disneyland geeks we just had to visit that park! Open yourself to the adventure of visiting Southeast Asia, you’ll want to go back and visit more!
